Children’s Operetta Workshop (COW)
In addition to our regular season, we have developed the Children’s Operetta Workshop (COW), an educational outreach program that seeks to enrich the lives of children of all ages through active participation in professional musical theater productions. We present one or two children’s operetta productions each year under the auspices of COW. With roles for children of all ages, accessible melodies, and familiar stories, we are able to give children ranging in age from 6 to 15 weekly singing, movement and acting lessons as they prepare a show for a nominal fee. All shows are fully staged and costumed. The children are taught by Chicago Folks Operetta’s professional musicians and perform along side professional singers. Most importantly, participants are receiving the invaluable experience of participating in a stage production from start to finish. The Chicago Folks Operetta does not discriminate based on age, race, or gender The most amazing part of the COW outreach program is the chance for children to dance and sing with a live orchestra. Most of the shows we perform in COW are comprised of up to 15 professional musicians. A rare opportunity that children are sure to cherish for the rest of their lives.
